At Garbrook, we use a powerful combination of human expertise and advanced information technology to funnel, filter, and organize information. We are developing a KnowledgeBase to support analysis and decision-making for organizations and individuals requiring a clear understanding of scientific, technical, economic, and policy aspects behind complex commercial and societal issues.
The Garbrook Advanced Biofuels Resource
Our current focus is on Bioenergy and the environmental concerns that surround this emerging market. Our premier product and component of the KnowledgeBase, the Garbrook Advanced Biofuels Resource (ABR), is a unique web resource that pulls together disparate information from publicly available sources pertaining to a full range of Biofuels Industry topics.
ABR Content
The ABR comprises Digital Pages that present comprehensive yet concise information from key topic areas in the global Biofuels Industry: Companies; Science, Technology, Processes; Governments, Organizations, Policies; and Community (Figure 1). We endeavor to capture as much information as is currently available, and we update the ABR daily.
Digital Pages are extensively cross-referenced, with up-to-date content presented in a uniform style and structure and linked to the original sources (Figure 2). We plan to structure and organize future Resources similarly, as the topic areas are of critical importance in all areas of Renewable Energy.
Companies
The first key category in any Garbrook Resource is Companies (Figure 3). The ABR contains details about key players in the Biofuels Industry. Digital Pages describe companies producing biofuels, as well as those supplying biomass, enzymes, organisms, technology, equipment, engineering and construction services, and financing to biofuels projects. The ABR puts special emphasis on emerging technologies and relationships between various companies.
Science, Technology, Processes
The second key category in any Garbrook Resource is Science, Technology & Processes (Figure 4). The ABR contains detailed information about individual biofuel feedstocks, including the logistics of growing, harvesting, collecting, storing, and transporting them, converting feedstocks to biofuels and other valuable coproducts, and ongoing research efforts in these areas. Digital Pages also describe the microorganisms and proteins involved in biofuel production, technologies used to produce biofuels, key traits being developed to improve biomass and biofuel yields, and important patents and studies pertaining to the Biofuels Industry.
Governments, Organizations, Policies
The third key category in any Garbrook Resource is Governments, Organizations & Policies (Figure 5). The ABR contains extensive information about critical social and legal issues pertaining to the Biofuels Industry. Digital Pages describe individual state, federal, and international legislation, incentives, and programs that pertain to policy, permitting, and the environment, as well as studies describing impacts of such social and legal issues. Digital Pages also contain information about international organizations involved in the Biofuels Industry, from international, federal, and state agencies to environmental and nonprofit organizations
Community
The ABR also presents details about the Biofuels Community (Figure 6). Digital Pages describe people involved in the Biofuels Industry, from scientists and economists to investors, politicians, and top management in companies. Digital Pages also describe international conferences and industry events covering topics critical to the Bioenergy Industry
ABR Tools
The ABR is easily navigable and fully searchable.
Navigate
The interactive navigation tool (Figure 7) guides subscribers through the ABR, helping them browse the main categories and delve deeper into topics or change direction to explore other areas.
Search
The flexible search tool (Figure 8) facilitates searches of the ABR content. Subscribers can search for keywords to identify and link to Digital Pages containing the information of interest.
Advanced Search
The powerful advanced search tool (Figure 9) enables subscribers to limit searches to specific topic areas in the ABR and browse search results by topic area.
Special Features of the ABR
ABR subscriptions come with the following recent additions:
Daily Garbrook ABR Notification Emails
Subscribers receive our daily email notification service (Figure 10). The Garbrook ABR Notification email provides easy access to the most important and timely developments in the Biofuels Industry each day. Daily Extracts are hyperlinked to the ABR to enable direct access to the relevant ABR pages. The Garbrook ABR Notification email also provides key Biofuels Industry metrics, links to the Mega Tables and other ABR tools and features, and information about important Garbrook happenings.
Downloadable Mega Tables
The ABR includes tabulated summaries of Global Cellulosic, US Ethanol, and US Biodiesel Plants and Projects (Mega Tables) that are refreshed with each daily product build. Operational information is available in online versions of the Mega Tables that are hyperlinked to corresponding Digital Pages in the ABR (Figure 11).
Expanded versions of the Mega Tables, including additional details about feedstocks, coproducts, technologies, and technology providers, can be downloaded (Figure 12). The downloadable Mega Tables are available as formatted spreadsheets (.xls) or tab delimited text (.txt), with or without hyperlinks to the corresponding Digital Pages in the ABR.
